Leave Me Alone!

On family vacations, I could never understand why my Mom would choose to go off by herself and do laundry rather than spring for a noisy swimming session (in a lake or motel pool) with Dad and the rest of us.  Who would want to be stuck in a hot room with only a washer, dryer, and a pile of dirty clothes to talk to?

Now I get it!  (Me!  Me!  Please pick me!)

Maybe you'd gladly crawl into the nearest empty dryer vent to be by yourself.  (On the other hand maybe you're already so alone that you'd gladly pay someone to come and annoy you just so you could tell them to leave).   Though some of us may not get much quality quiet time, we all need alone time with the Lord.

"And when He had sent them away, He departed into a mountain to pray."  Mark 6: 45  So maybe you can't send them anywhere and the closest mountain is a whole tank of gas away.  The Lord Himself is an example of getting away and talking to the Father.  He desires that for us, and will certainly help us do the same.

Ask Him for a time and place; maybe getting up earlier; staying up later; or praying aloud as you drive (caution:  make sure kids are small enough or your prayers will be broadcast throughout the neighborhood).  Or, what an example to your kids if they heard you say, "Mommy is having her quiet time with Jesus now, so I want all of you on your bed with a book."  Or, you could just Velcro them to a chair (just kidding).
