Wonder Women (Help—I wonder what I’m going to do now!)

With or without children, I’m sure we’ve all had moments when we’ve just got to eat and we’ve got to do it now (and we have no intention of feeding the 5,000 while we do it).  I have spoken to some of those “wonder” women.  Here are their thoughts and stories:

-My dream is to be able to sit down and eat a hot meal—uninterrupted.

-I long to get a private moment to snatch a brownie or cookie without setting off the food alarm.

- (in the driver’s seat))I have tried tugging a brownie out of my purse while my child asks from the back seat, “What’s that, Mommy?”  I have to adjust the rear-view mirror so he won’t see me cramming it into my mouth and chomping violently.

-I keep a large box of Oreos in the cupboard.  To keep the kids from hearing the cellophane crackle, I once said, “Go upstairs and see Daddy”  They were back down in time to see me stuff something under my sweater.

-While dad was out of town, I needed my comfort food.  I made a whole pan of fudge, but kept it hidden on the floor between my bed and the wall.  Throughout the day I could run in, shut the door, eat a scoop, and no one knew.

The Lord tells us in Psalm 139 that He knows when we sit, stand, go out, and come in.  Before we can even utter a word, He knows what it will be.  (And, I’m pretty sure He even knows when we are desperate for a brownie).

Eat Your Squash—It’s Cool!

Does the word good sound rather bland?  We read a good book…tell someone they did a good job, or say it’s good that it didn’t rain on your nephew’s friend’s outdoor wedding.

We tell our kids to “Eat your squash—it’s good for you.” (A fact you don’t believe until you find your kids won’t eat theirs).  Why use the word good when we could say awesome, fantastic, or cool?  (Though saying “Eat your squash—it’s cool” wouldn’t have done it for my kids).

How often is good used to describe the Lord?

Ps. 34:8 “O taste and see that the Lord is good.”

Ps. 145:9 “The Lord is good to all”

What about the Lord’s use of it in affirming his creation?

          Gen.1:10, 12, 18, 21, 25

Dig out your concordance and find some more.  Is it still a good word to use?

In the Beginning…

Do you like to cook, landscape, build, sew, paint, write, or even just make mess?  Here’s a truth that should that should grab our face, moosh it right up to the Bible and say, “Look at this!”:  “In the beginning, God created…”

Before paint and paintbrushes, needles and thread, blueprints and hammers, words and outlines, shovels and wheelbarrows, recipes and measuring cups, God created.  Before Home Depot, Rona Revy, or Fanny Fabrics, God created. And He didn’t use a single thing.  How creative are we, really?

Hail and What?

At the risk of sounding ignorant and unspiritual, I will admit that the word “fire” (Ex. 9:23) has not popped out at me as it did the other day.  Fire and hail—probably not something you’d see every day.  I’m sure the hail itself was enough to get everyone’s attention (especially if you were an Egyptian out in the field).  Can you picture it?  Sometimes, I guess you just had to be there to get the full effect.

Now What?

I came across this quote the other day on an old calendar.  It was on a picture of a chipmunk, but I think we could tape one of ourselves over it…

“I think I have fully surrendered…

and then He asks me for something

I don’t want to give up.”

What do you think?

“I Have a Job for You…”

Can you imagine…

Moses, Aaron… I have a job for you.  You have already been in to see Pharaoh, and you have an idea of what you are up against.  I want my people out of Egypt, so you are going to confront Pharaoh again.  You are already like gods to him.  Now, you are going to perform some signs and wonders.  However, he is not going to be very impressed by what he hears.  Not only that, but he will harden his heart, so he does not do what you ask. We will be going through 12 rounds.  Any questions or problems with this on your end?  Good—let’s get started.

“And Moses and Aaron did as the Lord commanded them, so did they.” Ex. 7:6
